Summer School in Thessaloniki

July 13, 2022

What: COMPILE so-organized Summer School in Thessaloniki

Where: Thessaloniki, Greece

When: 28th – 30th of June 2022

Summer school in Thessaloniki at the end of June gathered 150 participants in total, coming from 24 different countries and with diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

Summer School’s primary goal was to raise awareness of the need for citizens and local communities to have access to renewable and affordable energy sources like solar and wind energy, which will encourage active participation in the transition to a just, democratic, and inclusive energy system across Europe.

Opening remarks and the keynote speakers kicked off the first day. Our colleague Tomi Medved and Compile coordinator presented the main aims of the project. After the keynotes, the next sessions were dedicated to gender justice, energy poverty and Citizen energy and the role of Municipalities. Participants learned how to develop an energy community project on the second day. There were various workshops and group projects led also by Compile representatives. The final day was really interesting. After closing remarks in Thessaloniki City Hall, a tour of the WEnCoop Energy Community solar park was organized, followed by a closing ceremony at the Halkidiki beach.

In addition to Tomi Medved, Chloé Fournely and Tamara Smolej from our lab attended the Summer School and assisted with Compile activities.

The event’s more thorough details and pictures may be found on Compile’s website.
