December EESTEC Olympics 2.0

January 4, 2024

What: EESTEC Olympics 2.0

Where: Faculty of Electrical Engineering

When: 13.-14.12.2023

In mid-December last year, the EESTEC (Electrical Engineering Students’ European Association), together with the Student Energy Club (Študentski Energetski Klub – ŠEK), organised the EESTEC Olympics 2.0 competition for the second time. The competition was structured as Hackathon in which teams of students were seeking for solutions to three interconnected challenges in the field of Energy.

The focus of this year’s competition was related to Slovenia’s green energy transition. The topics of the challenges were prepared by the laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, namely the Laboratory of Energy Policy – LEST the Laboratory of Electricity Networks and Devices – LEON and the Laboratory of Photovoltaics and Optoelectronics – LPVO in cooperation with the representatives of the main sponsor of this year’s competition, HSE.

The challenge topics were divided into:

  • The impact of the new methodology for network tariffs billing,
  • E-mobility,
  • Powering Slovenia with electricity from renewable sources

The first day of the competition was dedicated to solving the challenges, while the second day was dedicated to presenting the solutions and announcing the winning teams.

All participating teams showed a great deal of knowledge and ingenuity in solving the challenges. The judging panel had a difficult task, but in the end unanimously decided on the three winning teams. The main prize was an exchange with an Aurora partner faculty.

Our laboratory is aware of the importance of such events, which actively encourage students to broaden their horizons and acquire new knowledge beyond the basic study process at the faculty, and we were therefore pleased to accept EESTEC’s invitation to participate in the event once again.
