What: 17th Conference of Slovenian Electric Power Engineers CIGRE-CIRED
Where: Portorož, Slovenia
When: 19-21 May 2025

Members of the Laboratory of Energy Policy (LEST) team attended the 17th edition of the Conference of Slovenian Electric Power Engineers CIGRE-CIRED, which this year took place in the warm and sunny city of Portorož. A strongly represented LEST team at the conference presented 6 papers focusing on different areas of electric power engineering, from electricity markets and regulation to Energy Transformation Builders.
The topics of the papers presented at the conference are related to the research activities of the 3Diverse, Ecoloop, STREAM and Opentunity projects, as well as various ongoing and completed industrial projects.
On the first day of the conference, one of the sessions C5 – Electricity Market and Regulation was opened by LEST team member Jernej Jozič with a paper entitled Analysis of novel support schemes for the integration of renewable energy source technologies, in the same session Matej Pečjak presented a paper entitled Cost and benefits analysis of the upgrade of the basic model of Independent Aggregator.
On the same day, in the afternoon, Matej presented another paper entitled Advanced operation and planning of electrical power distribution networks using flexibility.
On the second day of the conference, three more papers were presented by LEST team members. In the study session SC D3 – Energy Transformation Builders, Jernej Zupančič presented a paper entitled Renewables and other aspects of rural energy transition, and Janez Gregor Golja presented a paper entitled Analysis of load forecasting and flexibility utilization of the HEMS fleet in the OPENTUNITY project in the same session.
The second day of the conference concluded with the presentations of student papers in the scope of the student competition, organised by the CIGRE-CIRED Student Section, where Tomaž Dolinar presented his paper, which was the result of his work in the Laboratory of Energy Policy (LEST). In his paper entitled Calculation of the electricity generation profile and its costs in the case of multiple technologies coupling, Tomaž presented a tool developed to calculate the economics of investments in a solar power plant and a battery energy storage system.
In addition to the presentation of papers, conference participants also used the time for networking, following trends in the field of electric power engineering in Slovenia and beyond, and exchanging opinions and experiences.
