Cooperation with IRI UL

The partnership between the Laboratory of Energy Policy and the Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana (IRI UL) brings together research excellence and the practical needs of the energy transition. Together, we develop solutions that connect technical expertise with social feasibility.

LEST members carry out part of their research and development work within IRI UL or through joint projects. In this way, we link technical knowledge (modelling, data analytics, optimisation, development scenarios) with the social and organisational aspects of implementing energy solutions: user needs, stakeholder engagement, impacts on communities, and real-world feasibility.

This partnership ensures that solutions are not only technically sound, but also useful, acceptable, and adapted to specific contexts, contributing to sustainable development at the level of organisations, local communities, and the energy system.

Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana (IRI UL)

The Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana (IRI UL) is a development and connecting environment within the University of Ljubljana, dedicated to collaboration with industry and society and to transferring research results into practical solutions. The Institute serves as a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world needs: it supports innovation development, partner networking, project implementation, and the deployment of solutions in practice.

IRI UL organises its work across thematic areas that cover both technological and social-science aspects of developing and implementing solutions:

  • Department for Applied Social Science Research
  • Department for Efficiency and the Built Environment
  • Department for Sustainable Energy Solutions
  • Responsible Research and Innovation
