INCREASE Summer School

What: 2nd INCREASE Summer School

The INCREASE Summer School took take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between 23rd and 27th May 2016. Hosted at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, the INCREASE Summer School enabled post-graduate students and Bologna Master Students in their final years of studies to meet, exchange experiences and ideas and to get new knowledge on different topics derived from the European FP7 project INCREASE curriculum. The main goal of INCREASE Summer School was to teach students about managing of Distributed Renewable Energy sources on low voltage distribution network. INCREASE project presents multiple control strategies and different approaches regarding increased distributed generation in order to improve their production rate and system stability simultaneously.

At the Summer School, students learned about different control strategies for distributed generation, provision of ancillary services towards the system operator, regulatory policy framework, grid code structure and ancillary market mechanisms, and proposed adjustments to facilitate successful provisioning of Ancillary Services (AS) necessary for the electricity grid operation, including flexible market products.

At the summer school, there were 20 participants from 9 EU countries and Turkey. The summer school also included a field trip to the Pumped-storage hydropower plant Avče.

Students had the opportunity to attend lectures from various speakers, including:

• Mag. Andreas Tuerk, MBA (Joanneum Research, Institute for Water Energy and Sustainability),
• Assoc. Prof. Grigoris Papagiannis, PhD (Power Systems Laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki),
• Raphael Caire, PhD (Grenoble Institute of Technology).
