June 14, 2023

What: EEM23 conference

Where: Lappeenranta, Finland

When: 6th – 8th June 2023

From the 6th to 8th of June, LEST was at Lappeenranta in Finland for the 19th edition of the European Energy Markets conference (EEM23) which was hosted by the Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology (LUT University).

This year’s key topics covered the improvement of energy market designs to ensure a smooth and effective integration of renewables, the inclusion of people from all financial, geographical and educational situations into the future energy systems, and the high interest in alternative fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia.

To play our part in this knowledge and ideas sharing, Edin Lakić presented the advantages and benefits of a common manual frequency restoration reserve market in the Balkans, showcasing the main takeaways from the CROSSBOW project. And Chloe Fournely presented the design of the local capacity and flexibility market that is currently being demonstrated in the X-FLEX project for solving congestion and voltage issues in the distribution network.

After the last edition held in our premises at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana, it was a new occasion to discuss and hear insights from visionary researchers, industry experts, and policymakers about the future of the European grid. Looking forward to next year’s panels, debates, and brainstorming in Istanbul!
